From Indiana to Ireland

I grew up in a small town in Indiana. My house was surrounded by corn and soy bean fields. My sisters and I spent a lot of time outside enjoying nature. There was never a point in which my family didn’t have pets. We had always loved being around animals.FullSizeRender

When I graduated high school, I moved to Indianapolis and attended a private university where I obtained my Bachelors degree in biology. I learned a lot about myself in those 4 years. I decided I wanted to work at a veterinary hospital when I graduated to see if veterinary medicine was right for me. I found a job at a small animal emergency clinic that I loved and worked there for 2 years gaining experience before I applied to veterinary school.
Going to school in Ireland was a dream and to be honest I applied there on a whim thinking that there was no way they would look twice at my application. BUT, here we are today and I am attending vet school in Ireland!

    Hi Shannon,

Good on you for keeping this blog about your experience – I enjoyed reading it! I wonder if you’d be open to discussing Dublin accommodation with a dog over email… I am about to start UCD Vet next September and would love to hear your thoughts!

Hey there! I can only apply to one Canadian school, so I’m seeking international options! After lots of research, I’ve decided UCD is the best fit. I’ve been to Dublin and rural Ireland before and love it, so that doesnt hurt!

I notice you have a pup and a fiancé! These are two things I’ve been quite stressed about, as well as housing and funding. If you could explain that side of things in more detail it would be much appreciated!

    Thanks in advance 🙂

Ps. I loved reading your blog!

    1. Hi! I’m very glad to hear you’ve enjoyed reading the blog. I would be happy to answer any of your questions. Do you have any e-mail address where I can contact you? Alternatively, you can e-mail me at kauffmansak@gmail.com and we can continue our conversation there. I’m currently in the midst of finals so I do apologize if my replies are a bit delayed! I will be writing more posts about the move to Ireland and general questions I’ve gotten once finals are over. I look forward to speaking more with you. – Shannon
